And it is by far the worst one so far.You know those boring hidden object games, were the game puts you in front of a small screen and tells you which objects to find? This is similar, but instead the game puts you into a huge open space without even telling you what you have to do or look for.At on point, for example, you're in a huge square that takes ~2 minutes to surround entirely, NOT counting the inside, the few sidepaths, the stairs you can climb and the buildings you can enter. And here you have to find... 4 small birds. It leads to tedious running in circles for ages because you miss small objects, or a stair you can ascend, or a door you can open. This happens 5 or 6 times in this game. What makes is worse is the fact that Nenemis repeats one of the flaws of "The Awakening" which almost killed the game for me back then: The riddles are too linear. And that's a problem especially regarding items. Sometimes you click an item that looks important, but you can only look at it. You proceed until you solve the next step of the puzzle, and suddenly there's nothing to do. You walk around this huge open area and you've already clicked everything there is to click. What did you miss? Nothing, actually. It's simply this: The item you wanted to pick up before, but only could look at, you can suddenly pick up. And as you don't know this (why would I try picking something up that I couldn't pick up before?), you spent even more ages running in circles like an idiot. This makes kind of sense from a narration's perspective, but NOT in an adventure game. All of this tediousness is interrupted by ridiculous riddles. Sometimes you have to answer questions to proceed, but the answers are simply too strict. You learn that you have to find a specific painting in a gallery and the game wants you to tell Watson about it. You try the name of the ship, the ship model, the name of the admiral on the ship, the countries involved, the name of the battle, the location, even the name of the painting... nothing works. The correct answer is: boatSome other annoying things like sliding puzzles (hate them!) and jigsaw puzzles (you can solve it in your inventory, but when you put the puzzles tiles on the correct place and put it together there, it additionally rotates the tiles... just why?) and a horrible weaving puzzle that is pure trial & error. The whole plot is laughable and barely makes any sense."The Awakening" was, despite many flaws, quite enjoyable. "Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper" was a great game that improved on almost every single feature. But this one I didn't enjoy even a minute.. Even though this game is titled Sherlock Holmes - Nemesis nearly everywhere, the game's actual title is Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin, which was changed in several countries for some reason; I can understand America, since as we all know Americans are cultureless swine who would have no idea who Arsene Lupin is, but the reasoning behind changing it for the UK and Australia is a mystery I'll leave to Holmes. This game is most well known in the series due to the Creepy Watson effect, in which Watson follows the player by constantly teleporting behind them due to lack of a walking animation, but what I didn't realize before was that this was actually tragically removed in a 2010 remastering of the game, putting an end to creepy Watson's legacy. It's still a very good adventure game, though, so I'd highly recommend picking it up. The puzzles in between each of the big events can get a bit tedious at times, mainly at the end, but if you can deal with the game showing its small budget every now and then it's well worth getting for fans of Sherlock Holmes.. Sound: 8Graphics: 4.5Story: 8Gameplay: 7Commands: 9Fun: 4Time to load / lag: 8Bugs / Problems: 7Final Score: 5. This game is fun and challenging! Voice acting is pretty good. Graphics are great. Puzzles are challenging but not impossible. Characters are interesting. Love the ability to play as Holmes, Watson, or Lestrade. (however, the game decides when you play each character) I really like the music choice, fitting for the game and quite pretty! Has the ability to switch between first person or third person. I find the first person perspective best. Holmes rules! :D. Its more than just a \'seek and find\' game; its an adventure. Elementery, my dear Watson. I like it.. Frogwares do it again and release a completely amatuer and broken piece of software that does nothing to capture the spirit of Sherlock Holmes. The doftware requires you to install a separate package from Nvidia (PHYSx) before you can even load the game, and then the UI of the game is cumbersome and awkward. supporting characters will stand in your way in doorways and the generally be unhelpful. Gameplay is basically walk around a bit, click on stuff, make deductions based on nonsescical clues and then repeat. the 3D doesnt work very well at all and is basically amatuer level 3d engine programming. While some attempt has been made to makle it feel like 18th century England, it doesnt. it feels more like someone made this in their bedroom, didnt play test it and released it while it was broken because if EA can do it, it musy be fine, right?Avoid Frogwares games. None of them deliver on the promise they make. a poor game that looks and feels as poor as it plays.. I realise that Nemesis was released almost a decade ago but if an older game is going to be re-released onto any digital marketplace then I would expect the game to receive the bare minimum in optimisations in order to perform adequately on modern hardware. The video setup says it supports a wide-screen resolution of 1920x1080 yet everything appears to be stretched and in lower resolution. Certain graphics options are locked to minimum or are set to off, the option for highest detail and shadows will not activate, even with multiple restarts it just won't stick. With a GTX 1070 I'm experiencing severe FPS drops when looking at certain objects or locations, such as the red and white curtain in Sherlock's home or much of the gallery. It's quite unexpected considering my PC specs and how undemanding the game is, yet the game will often drop to 30FPS, this is with v-sync limited to 60FPS.I'd also noticed quite a fair amount of missing textures, particularly on interactive doors. There will be times where doors and cases will appear closed but remain open, allowing me to clip through them. The keybinding settings are odd. I can't rebind the inventory, I can't use keys like left-ctrl. There's no notice explaining what's reserved until I'd discover them later in-game. There are a small number of spelling and grammatical errors but it's not a huge deal, as there isn't much immersion left to break after experiencing so many visual glitches.Sometimes I would notice that dialogue audio ended abruptly, most notably with Sherlock during conversation. It was only a few milliseconds but noticeable nonetheless. Though I can easily tell that certain character's lines are over compressed and that a pop filter was not used during recording to protect the microphone. It feels like mouse smoothing is present. Combined with the FPS drops makes for a sluggish experience. To me it honestly sounds like every character is voiced by David Mitchell doing a terrible David Mitchell impression. I often found that one of the most difficult challenges in the game was opening the door in first-person mode. I do wish there was an auto-save function, fortunately the game never crashed, unlike other older point and click games I've played recently.Despite all this, the main aspects I do like are how involved I needed to be with discovering and solving clues. It can be very engaging until the "moon logic" starts creeping in. I also very much appreciated the the in-built hint system, that I relied on heavily, and I also played the majority of the game in first-person mode as I found third-person camera angles to be too janky.
